August 19, 2002 Meeting Minutes

 

 

  1. In attendance:

Dr. Robison, Jerry Epstein, Charles P. Gilman and his guest Professor Steen E. Pedersen, Art Smart, Steve and Cheryl Nolin, Tami Halphen, Faye Hamilton, Clayton Jones, Bobbie Culberson, John Flados, Tom Schubert, Duane Jones, Frances Burford and Dr. Alex Remenchik.

 

 

  1. Meeting started at 7:10 pm. Dr. Robison greeted the group.

 

 

  1. Clayton stated he wants Texas to have marijuana laws like they have in California. Dr. Robison stated medical marijuana is not legal in Texas. He also pointed out some problems with the California laws on medical marijuana.

 

 

  1. Tami stated she was having dinner a few nights ago at a restaurant and overheard three elderly men talking about medical marijuana. They were saying it should be legal.

 

 

  1. Faye wanted to get a group of people from Houston and Austin together and go up to Crawford while G. W. Bush is there to protest and talk about medical marijuana. No one in our group could commit to going on such short notice, as we would have to do it this weekend.           

           

 

      6.    Dr. Robison introduced our guest speaker, Charles P. Gilman, a new graduate student in the Dept of Molecular Physiology and Biophysics at Baylor. He has been doing research for the last few years at the National Institute of Aging in Baltimore. His topic, which he illustrated using PowerPoint slides, was "Marijuana: the Good, the Bad, and the High: An exposition of recent biomedical research and its implications."

 

       7.   Meeting adjourned at 8:40 PM.
