July 15, 2002 Meeting Minutes

 

  1. In attendance:

Dr. Robison, Karen Barnett, Scott Tillinghast, Steve and Cheryl Nolin, Tami Halphen, Faye Hamilton, Ann and Bob Lee, Bobbie Culberson and John Flados.

 

  1. Meeting started at 7:10 pm. Dr. Robison greeted the group.

 

 

  1. Dr. Robison introduced our guest speaker, Karen Barnett who is a single Mom and raised a son with Attention Deficit Disorder.

 

 

  1. Karen took the floor and told us about her son who is in prison and has Attention Deficit Disorder. She explained he was diagnosed with ADD and put on Ritalin when he was 5 or 6 years old. He took it up until 8 years old and then was given Dexadrine. She briefly spoke of the side affects of both medications and how they affected his every day life. Karen spoke in depth of the negativity of the prison and education systems here and the effect it has on ADD and AD/HD children and adults.

 

 

      5.   Faye, Tami and Cheryl were able to contribute to the discussion with their own              

            observations based on their experiences with students and/or family members who   

            had also been diagnosed with AD/HD. Several attendees stated they had no idea  

            how in depth this situation is. We had a very good lively discussion and several           

            attendees stated they had learned much and were interested in learning more.

 

 

     6.    Dr. Robison spoke briefly on bills for:

 

            1. Sentence Reduction for marijuana and other drugs.

            2. Medical Marijuana.

            3. Needle Exchange Programs.

 

  

      7.   Meeting adjourned at 8:30 PM.
